World Aids Day 2012

World Aids Day is celebrated on December 1st…… I AM BEGGING that everyone go and get tested!!! If you are having sex you should be tested every six months. That way if you have any type of STD you can catch it early; Some STD'S can go unnoticeable for 90 days. Please don't take your health or life for granted it only take about 30 minutes every six months. Even if you are dating someone or married please do not put your life in someone else hands. Something that I recently adopted was going to get tested with my mate if he/she has an issue with that you don't need to be sleeping with them. African Americans are being hit the hardest by HIV/AIDS and it is mostly because of lack of knowledge and laziness. Make sure to spread the word…. If you live in Galveston County then Come to the 4 C's clinic at 4700 Broadway from 10-1 & 4-6 come get a FREE test!! Food will be available as well as commodity food bags and door prizes!! If you live in surrounding areas please contact your local health department for a list of events in your area... You can also support by wearing red or a red ribbon!!

What Are You Thankful For?

Do you ever take the time to thank the most important people in your life? We all fall victim of the daily grind and sometimes become too busy to spend time or call our loved ones. During this time of the year we are able to spend time with our family and friends so this is a perfect time to show them that you appreciate and love them. Just a simple text message vs. a forwarded text message or maybe even a card can brighten up a person day. We all love the forwarded text message but try to make your loved ones personal. What are you thankful for? Life can sometimes be hard on us and sometimes I find myself complaining or feeling sorry for myself. And then I have to look at the bigger picture, I am here and healthy!!! So what you are not where you want to be, but you are not homeless. So what you are not driving that BMW at least you don't have to swipe your bus pass or even worse walk. Sometimes I have to remind myself these things as well. So this holiday season I will try and work harder on letting the important people know that I love them and value them in my life. Laugh more and worry less!! I am thankful for everything God has done for me but here are a few: thankful for my family and the impact they have left on my life good and bad, thankful for being Chiquita lee and everything that come with it, My parents you really showed out when you made them for me!!! Thankful for my friends old and new, thankful for every person that I come in contact with that inspires me!! Thankful for those who walked away!!! Thankful for the great man that I have in my life good or bad he is and will always be a blessing!!! Thankful for this blog site and all my readers please continue to grow with me!!! Thankful for my health!!!

The Case of the Ex….

"And I heard you're doing you, and you heard I'm doing better, and all I had to do was put two and two together" -Weezy

Most times when you date someone you gain mutual friends and also grow bonds with their family. So after the dust settles from a break up how you do you handle your new found friends and family? Since its holiday season many people are wondering should I stop by his/her mother, aunt, grandparents and friends house? I think a person can maintain a relationship with your Ex… friends and family long as it is healthy and respectable. What I mean by healthy? The fact that you broke means something was not working… so don't try to hang out with the family/friends to get your mate back. Don't make your mate feel uncomfortable with you being around so much. You have to make sure you do not hinder each other's future and current relationships by always being on the scene. Sometimes in order to make a healthy transition you may need to take a break from the entire situation so you can heal. If you want to continue to hang with family and friends just know that their loyalty will always be to your Ex, so don't be tacky and ask questions about them and what they have going on. That will make them feel in the middle which is not a good place. Don't try to over shine the new mate by showing up at every event, you are not winning just because you are at every event and they like it's only because your Ex family and friends are comfortable with you. Don't think because the new mate is in the corner by his/her self you won, they just have to get to know each other. And when that happens don't question them or get mad at them for hanging with the new mate, its life you have to trust that they can be adults and not keep mess up. This means sometimes you may have to decline that invite and maybe do lunch on another day or stop by the day before or after the event. It's a fact of life everyone will be someone's Ex and someone's next…… just make sure you handle yourself accordingly. Just from personal events in my life I have learned not to over step my boundaries when it comes to the family and friends I meet with my Ex's some of them you will be happy not to have to deal with them while others you may find you like their family and friends more than them. I always make sure if I am dating someone they are comfortable with me stopping by Ex family/friends house. And if I have an Ex that comes around too I handle that as well. My family is very friendly so most times they may invite one of my Ex's and I have to let them know… sometimes is good but damn yall having him bringing a dish… lol please feel free to share your stories or tips to help that EX THAT NEVER GO AWAY!!!

What If......

Why do we as humans visualize aspects of our lives with multiples endings…… why do we always replay past events and change the outcomes that are clearly not in our destiny? Our emotions can really get the best of us and we have to learn how to accept things for what they are. I found myself deep in thought about a situation that I am clearly happy to be out of but wondering “What If”. Curiosity always has you caught up in false hopes…and the coulda, shoulda, woulda in life. Sometimes you just have to believe that you are not in that situation for a reason, you did not react to that situation for a reason, be still and allow life to run its course. I know it’s easier said than done but focus on the good that came from it. Don’t allow the mind to trick you back into something that was toxic, wait for your moment!! So next time you are over thinking any past event just remember … It was not for you and thank GOD for unanswered prayers!!

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year.....

Tis the season to….. Freak Out!!! This time of the year is what some will say is the best time of the year while others disagree. For some this time of year is filled with food, family and fun, and others this time is filled with the absence of loved ones or the reality of not having family and friends to fellowship with. So what is it about the holidays that drive folks crazy? This time of year can bring out the best in people and situations. The atmosphere is always happy and jolly people seem to have a pep in their step, pastries and goodies show up out the blue everyday from co-workers and who don't love free food. People who you don’t normally deal with you can talk holiday talk with. You are happy to see your family, and the relatives you don’t see often come around. Maybe the stuck up person in the family falls from cloud nine and enjoys some of the old family traditions. Somehow you always find yourself looking back and reflecting on childhood stories…Goodtimes!!! And you know that family member, neighbor, coworker or friend will make your favorite dish that you have asked them to make all during the year. But on the other hand the holidays will force you to deal and come in contact with people you put out your life for a reason. It’s really hard to celebrate holidays when a loved one is absent; the old memories of them always seem to have you feeling down. It seems as if the holidays go out of their way to make you think about your loved ones who are not with you. It becomes stressful when you are not financially able to purchase things for holidays food, decorations, toys for the children, that new outfit (don’t act like you don’t know). Also it’s the time of year when couples (married or dating) have to choose which family you are celebrating with or which house to start and end with. And don’t let one of the families live out of town… extra money and stress. You have to deal with that monster in law or the father from hell. The entire visit you will be wondering if your mate’s family will accept you, will the food be good, what questions will his family ask, am I dressed decent enough for grandma…. Stress on top of stress!! Do you run and hideout for the next few weeks? Or do you embrace the holidays and count down the days until it’s over? So I figured I would write a few holiday pieces to make humor of the upcoming holidays…. The song does say “tis the season to be jolly”

ICU REPORT: DATING

There is no secret men and women have been slacking in the dating department, both sexes have given up on it. It’s so easy to bash the opposite sex when it comes to dating, due to the lack of date nights. Women have become accustomed to the “honeymoon” stage. You know when you first meet a guy and he wants to take you out every day and even allows you to pick the dates…. (Funtimes) but they sure fade away very quickly. All of the sudden he is too busy for the monster he has made. Some women have even become accustomed to one date, really?!?! I think date nights are a great way to renew a relationship, during the week you are busy with work, children, school and maybe all three and you tend to get lost in the work week grind. Being able to take yourself out of that environment and relax and talk with your mate about their week, issues, and accomplishments you are able to connect with them on a deeper level. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out things to do for date nights movies, dinner, renting red box movies, bowling, skating and even just going site seeing. Some couples have planned date nights such as the second Friday, fourth Saturday which is great because you are committed to those days and you can plan ahead and look forward to it, each couple is different so do what’s best you. Fellas I understand you are burned out with the date night idea, but if you set up your boundaries you are sure to enjoy it. If a woman wants you to take her out on extravagant dates challenge hear to take turns paying. I am very sure that will knock the expensive taste out her mouth. It’s all fun when you can party and dine on someone else’s dime, but when you are paying the tab you are more mindful of spending. Don’t get me wrong I love for a man to pamper me but I don’t think it is right to have someone continuously spend tons of money on me. The person may feel entitled to talk and treat you any kind of way, no one will dangle the carrot over my head. Also be sure that your voice is heard when date nights are planned. If she wants to go out every week and you want to do it once a mouth meet in the middle, go twice a month that way both parties have sacrificed something. And when it comes to choosing the date nights make sure to mix it up. It’s unfair for men to have to go see chick flicks every time and unfair for women to have to always go to a sporting event (which I would love), rotate on who chooses the place and enjoy it!! I don’t think dating is dead…. I think it’s on life support, don’t pull the plug just yet!! Nourish it and bring your date night back to life or make sure in your future relationships it is enforced.

How about them COWBOYS!!!

Are you ready for some football? This weekend I attended the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Seattle Seahawks game in Dallas Texas…. As some of you already know I bleed sliver and blue a true Cowboys fan. So to be able to attend was such an honor and folks if you have never been to a Dallas Cowboys game you must go… the stadium is beautiful you will be in amazed of its size and beauty. The fan base is spectacular these people truly love the Cowboys…. I mean you can get lost in all the different parking lots full of fans!! While any seat in the stadium are great, I was lucky to win a pair of suite tickets….Boy was I in for a treat my suite was awesome we had one of the best views in the house. There was endless food and drinks including alcoholic beverages (heaven) which because I was so into game did not get to drink. It also included three flat screen T.Vs and big and comfy chairs, no need to go far or wait in line to use the restroom we had one in our suite. By luck we were in the “Hall of fame suite” so when they announced that during halftime they would be inducting three players in to the “Ring of Honor” I was super excited. If you are a true fan of the sport then you will know that this is one the highest honors beside hall of fame for a player to get from a franchise. Watching the former Legends slip on that blue coat was such an honor. Added to the distinguished list were Drew Pearson, Charles Haley, and Larry Allen. Kind of made me wish I could have been there when they inducted the triplets (Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin) but I was able to snap a photo of them on the wall … which satisfied me as well. And just to add to the perfect atmosphere Drew Person stopped by the suite to say hello, and take photos. Now this is where the sad part comes in my cell phone froze and would not come on for the twenty minutes he was there… which was so random because it has never done that. I really need to invest in a camera that was ridiculous!!! And to top it off the COWBOYS Won…. This made me very happy girl!!! I cannot wait to experience this with family and friends so you guys be on the look-out I will be planning a trip next year!!!

I know the pictures suck.. but that all I could come up with!! Special thanks to Pier 27 Tavern for the great tickets!!
